25 Best Places to Retire List
TopRetirements.com has put out its list of what it says are the top 25 places to retire in the United States of America. In our opinion, the list contains some surpises that we wouldn’t normally associate with retirment destination cities. But you be the judge.
Here’s an excert from their 25 Best Places to Live article.
Every year we keep track of the most popular retirement towns - our 2008 list has just been compiled.
Asheville, North Carolina remains the run away favorite dream retirement town. Asheville has 50% more web visits than the next most visited town on this site (Sarasota, Florida).
There were some new additions in 2008 within the top 10 places to retire on this list. Those include San Diego, California at #8; Austin, Texas at #9; and Phoenix, Arizona at #10.
Sunbelt states dominated with the most towns in the top 25 list. Connecticut (Old Saybrook), Canada (Halifax), and Ohio (oxford) were the only towns to make the list from north of the Mason-Dixon line. Arizona dominated with 6 “best” towns, followed by Florida (4), North Carolina (3), California (2), Texas (2), and Tennessee(2). Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, Connecticut, Ohio, and Canada each had 1 town on the list.

You Can Enjoy Wine Tasting Where?
It’s true, you can do wine tasting in the Verde Vally, Arizona. It’s actually a growing phenomena. Located in the triangle of Camp Verde, Sedona and Cottonwood, Arizona you’ll find wineries such as Oak Creek Vineyards, Page Springs Cellars and Echo Canyon Vineyard and Winery.
The triangle area features these fine vineyards. It may be difficult for many to think of Arizona as wine country but that is the case with Northern Arizona. According to Rod Keeling, President of the Arizona Wine Grower’s Association, “The vision of world class quality wine, grown and produced here in Arizona is gaining traction every day”.
For a world class dining experience to wrap up your wine tasting tour, visit the wonder cities of Sedona and the Village of Oak Creek.
Arizona is so much more than desert and cactus, it has the world class appeal that amenities such as vineyards can bring.

iVoteAmerica Ties Cities and States to PLOGGING
What’s “PLOG” and what is “PLOGGING?”
iVoteAmerica.com launched a political polling and blogging network in late August, 2008, known as a polling and blogging site. Okay, we’re sure you get it: Poll + Blog = PLOG. Polling plus blogging = plogging.
iVoteAmerica.com allows people, not just professional writers, bloggers and political axe-grinders to post political opinions on the left, right and middle of issues.
But, you say, “there are many political blogs.” Correct, there are. However, the iVoteAmerica.com plogging network is connected to each of the 50-States and to every city in the USA via the e-Partner Real Estate and Relocation Network and the CityBlogUSA community blogging network.
There is one more important thing about the iVoteAmerica.com plogging network. If a person, entity or group want to license their own iVoteState network they can request consideration by emailing iVoteAmerica or calling the at 1-877-380-1000. The company is just a short time away from launching the 50-state network with such states as iVoteCalifornia.com, iVoteNebraska.com, iVoteTexas.com, iVoteMontana.com, etc.
It’s quite a network! Check out the hot political posts and commentary at www.iVoteAmerica.com.
Savannah Smiles
The image to the left (source unknown) is excellent and I have one almost identical to it taken in October 1998 from the top of the Hyatt Regency in Savannah, Georgia.
My image was blank and white, shot at about midnight with a Pentax 6×7 medium format. It hangs on my office wall as a 16X20 and is a facinating image of the river walk area of Savannah, Georgia.
The title of my image is “Savannah Smiles” and it really does.
The great thing about Savannah, Georgia is its charm, history and downtown riverwalk area. The dining is superb and the people of the area are amazingly “southern” in their hospitality and friendiness.
History of Savannah, Georgia begins in 1733, yes, you are reading this right! In February of 1733, General James Oglethorpe and his crew and passengers set anchor in the Savannah River. It was Oglethorpe that named the 13th colony “Georgia” and its first city was Savannah.
Savannah had a prominent place during the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Read all about Savannah.

Great Small Towns in the USA
CNNMoney.com names the top 100 small towns in the U.S.A. We reviewed the list and agree with most of the choices they have made. As large cities continue to expand in population, drive times and most importantly, the cost of living, Americans are discovering a renewed love for small town America.
After all, small town America is a place many of us dream of and some of us recall from our youth. The pace and lifestyle of a small community brings with it a more temperate environment for individuals, families and children.
Here’s the top ten small towns named by CNNMoney as the “Best Places to Live.”
- Plymouth, MN
- Fort Collins, CO
- Naperville, IL
- Irvine, CA
- Franklin Township, NJ
- Norman, OK
- Round Rock, TX
- Columbia, MD
- Overland Park, KS
- Fishers, IN
